Albany: Still the 'hub' of Linn County

If you love history, Albany's a great place to start your visit in Linn County. But the county seat offers much more than merely heritage.

Albany was once known as the “Hub City” because several rail lines, rivers and well traveled roads converged in Albany. Today you could make your “base camp” here and explore the area by the hour or by the day.

Albany is credited by historians and architects with having the most varied collection of historic buildings in Oregon. Four Albany Historic Districts are listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior. The collection of over 700 historic buildings includes every style of architecture popular from the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s, from the colorful Queen Anne’s, the "painted ladies" of historic homes, to the Craftsman bungalows that feature a variety of natural materials.

Visit Albany’s popular carousel project. It features the work of some well known carousel artists, in its Carousel Museum, as well as Albany’s own volunteer carvers and painters working in the studios. This project showcases 52 beautiful, original animals on a restored 100+ year-old mechanism. But be careful . . . the carvers will give you a tool and tell you to go to work!

Located smack in the center of the fertile Willamette Valley, Albany’s restaurants feature many of the products that are in season and grown locally. Pick up an Oregon Country Trails brochure and explore some of the back roads, farm stands, wineries and artists' studios found along the way.

Come, visit and enjoy the difference in Albany, Oregon!
